I do have an option to install a fifth wheel hitch but you cannot install above bed base rails on a truck with a gooseneck hitch. In order to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a short bed truck, you will indeed need some sort of offset or sliding adapter to prevent cab to trailer clearance issues. That said, they do not offer any sort of offset gooseneck hitch ball for a truck with factory prep package. Therefore, you can either install a new offset fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter on the trailer or ditch the adapter altogether and install a sliding fifth wheel hitch.

I am not aware of any instances where a king pin has actually broken off, but I can confirm that using an adapter can be rough on the fifth wheel frame. In fact, Lippert, who manufactures the fifth wheel frames for many different fifth wheel trailer manufacturers actually specifically mentions that using an adapter to tow their fifth wheel frames with a gooseneck hitch will void the frame warranty.

I contacted our representative at Draw-Tite, and he informed me that the Hi-Rise Gooseneck to Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # 9480, is not compatible with your Remov-A-Ball Gooseneck Hitch because the Draw-Tite and Reese Remov-A-Ball Gooseneck hitches are plate style hitches.
